Musicians Matter
Music is the most productive industry in the arts and entertainment sector, contributing billions to our economy every year, and creating tens of thousands of jobs. But right now things are tough for most working musicians: gigs are few and far between, venues are asking us to play for less, and the future of Government support is uncertain.
COVID has made a difficult situation for musicians even worse, with many of us being forced out of the music industry to look for work elsewhere.
Musicians Australia member’s require payments for all gigs and will never knowingly undercut. This is what we stand for, before, during and after COVID; a healthy music industry, supporting working musicians to support themselves, not one based on rip offs, ‘exposure’ gigs, and a race to the bottom on performance fees.
Supporting Recovery
The music industry is a vital component of Australia’s economy and it will play just as big a role supporting communities and in the entertainment, hospitality and tourism indusyries during the recovery. Instead of being forced out of their vocation, musicians need to be supported to keep up their performing skills, and to develop careers in the Australian music industry through recording, streaming, and teaching.
Musicians need to be supported by industry stakeholders and government alike in their return to work. We have outlined our return to work principles HERE.
